"Just Ask" Volunteer Fair cancelled, but there is plenty to do!

Due to public health concerns surrounding the coronavirus, the third annual Just Ask Volunteer Fair for Seniors and Retirees has been cancelled.

Originally scheduled for Tuesday, May 12, the Just Ask Volunteer Fair is a wonderful event that connects seniors and retirees with local and state non-profit organizations, such as NADP, to explore volunteer opportunities. We will make sure to release further information if and when the Fair is rescheduled!

In the meantime, there are plenty of great ways that Nebraskans of all ages can join in the work of calling for the abolition of the death penalty in our state! Here are some easy examples:

  • Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper. Submissions are typically between 150-250 words (if that sounds intimating, this entire update is over 400 words!); if you have never submitted an LTE before, or if you would like guidance, feel free to reach out to me at alex@nadp.net! Be sure to include your address and phone number - this information won't be published, it's just so the newspaper can verify the letter's authenticity.

  • Host a Zoom call for your community group, your church group, or your friends and family members to discuss abolition. Teleconferences like this could easily focus on a piece of short media, followed by a discussion or a Q&A session. NADP is happy to provide speakers for these events; please contact us to make arrangements.

  • Follow NADP on Facebook and Twitter, and share our updates with your followers.

  • Call or write to your Nebraska State Senator, asking them to introduce or support legislation to repeal the death penalty and replace it with life in prison without parole. Click here to find your Senator and their contact information!

  • Donate to our organization! Nebraskans for Alternatives to the Death Penalty is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization working to educate the citizens of Nebraska about the many problems with the death penalty system in our state. We operate entirely on contributions from generous Nebraskans of all walks of life. Donations to NADP are tax-deductible, and will be used in our important outreach and education efforts. If you are able, please take a moment to send in a donation of $25, $50, $100, $500, or whatever amount you can afford. Click here to go to our donation page - or if you prefer, checks can be mailed to Nebraskans for Alternatives to the Death Penalty, 211 N. 14th Street, Lincoln, NE 68508.

Towards justice!
